Frizzy, Sweet Summertime

So it’s almost Summer, or if you’re in Arizona, it’s here. These 100+ degree days are no joke! I know most of us have been sitting on our asses for the last two months and are like “what the hell happened to spring?!” Thanks Covid! One of my favorite things to do in the mornings is do a work out outside, but now it’s 90 degrees by 10 am! Hard pass! The quarantine 15 might make an appearance if I can’t get back to work soon.
Who’s going back to work this week? How essential are you? My salon’s opening date has been pushed to May 15th. I swear I’ve been so comfortable at home that I don’t even remember what work feels like. If this is what retirement looks like, I could hang out by the pool and read everyday, WITHOUT A DOUBT!

As we move towards these Summer months, our hair starts to take a turn. Sweat, heat, chlorine, all does a number on our hair. Do you find yourself washing your hair more often? Then your scalp begins to dry? Your ends get that frizzy feeling? Then next thing you know it, you’re texting your hairstylist an SOS message? Well, what if i told you that you can bypass all of that with some “sweet summertime” products? MIND BLOWN! I mean, you should still get a trim at the end of Summer, because, well, trims keep our hair healthy, and keep it growing. But, that’s a whole other blog post.

These are my top 5 go-to products for this summer, to keep your hair feeling luscious.

1

Oribe Gold Lust Repair & Restore shampoo & conditioner.
Forever my favorite! Color protecting, safe on extensions, and super hydrating without weighing the hair down. Gold Lust keeps the hair cuticle smooth and helps reverse damage. Shampoo + Condition 2-3 times a week. Shy away from shampooing everyday. I know it’s hard, but your hair will thank you. You will notice a huge difference in the texture, less tangles, and color will last longer.

2

Amika Soul Food Nourishing Mask
You guys, if I just had smell-o-vision, I could sell this to every single one of you. The aroma is amazing! More importantly, this Amika mask is super hydrating. Masks are great to use every 3-4 shampoos, in replacement for conditioner. I usually mask on shave days when I can leave it on for at least 5 minutes. If you’ve been out on the lake or laying out by the pool all day, definitely do a mask. The UV rays, just like our skin, ages our hair causing it to dull and lack moisture.
Shampoo, towel dry, apply mask mids to ends, comb through, leave for a minimum 5 minutes, then rinse. If you have fine thin hair, rinse thouroughly. The mask might make your hair feel filmy.

3

Unite 7Seconds Detangling Spray
This spray is an all in one product. Use it right out of the shower when your hair is wet. It helps detangle the hair, while adding nourishment. 7Seconds protects the hair agains heat and UV rays. Throw a bottle in your beach bag and spray right when you get out of the water for extra protection.

4

Moroccanoil Treatment
Moroccanoil has been one of my go-to’s since I started in this industry. The smell, the texture, the benefits, I recommend for every hair type. An argan-based oil that adds shine, antioxidants, and vitamins. Speeds up drying time, which is my favorite because my hair takes forever to dry. I use this oil wet and dry, mids-to ends.

IGK First Class Detox Charcoal Dry Shampoo
Okay, this doesn’t have any hydration benefits, but let me tell you why it’s essential on this list. Like I have stated previously, shampooing your hair everyday is naughty (coming from your hair stylist). However, during Summer, we sweat more, which makes us feel like we need to wash everyday. So, dry shampoo helps our hair by soaking in the oils and keeping our hair feeling refreshed without shampooing. IGK charcoal dry shampoo is my all time favorite to use! I spray all over my roots, especially on my part, and where I need volume. Let it soak in for 30 seconds, then massage the root to remove the excess powder that shows. Style as desired.
